Lucifer from Milton’s Paradise Lost

I wanted to try a more challenging facial expression for this fall’s statue . I asked my son Christian to be my model. He decided to make a terribly angry face which made me laugh since he’s rarely visibly angry.

I happened to be reading Milton’s Paradise List at the time. Lucifer, in this story, was raging because he’d been recently kicked out of heaven. To say he was angry would be putting it mildly. He was furious….in fact raging and bent on revenge. I couldn’t think of a better use for Christian’s ‘angry face’.

What a fascinating challenge this project has been! Being a fantasy character, I had a fun time embellishing some of the features. I added horns, deep angry wrinkles, goatee, and elven style ears along with fangs. The result was pretty epic!

As to how I’ll ever figure out a mother mold for this, I don’t know. I still need to sculpt the second ear and then I can mark mold lines.
